New Creative Hospital Web Redesign

How one hospital is encouraging creative solutions:

If lanet satter had just one thing to tell people when they visit the Johns Hopkins Sibley Innovation Hub, it would be this: Try new things.
As manager of innovation operation at the hub, located within Northwest D.C.'s Sibley Memorial Hospital, Satter gets to see new ideas come to life inside 6,000 square feet open daily to hospital staff, patients and patient families. Stocked with supplies and five dedicated staffers, the hub has served as a launching point for many projects in the last three years, including creating new cord wraps for IV poles and kits for breast cancer patients that provide information, tools and words of encouragement.

Founded in 2014, the idea for the hub came from Sibley CEO It quickly became so integrated into hospital life that in 2016, every manager, director, vice president and C-suite leader participated in an innovation project. According to Sibley, it's one of the largest rollouts of an innovation and product design program in a community hospital.
Among the 2016 projects: RoomOS, a bedside technology that helps respond to patient needs; Centre Sibley, a concierge program to assist visitors and patients; The Tranquility Room, designed to provide a quiet space for staff; and About Me Boards, designed to be installed in every patient room to share nonmedical info about each patient.

The cost has been minimal, according to the hospital, which declined to give specific figures. It amounts to less than 1 percent of Sibley's total $311 million budget.
"The motivation for the hub came right from the heart of our organization," Satter said. "In that sense, it's really come from the top, but we've tried to make it not just a mandate."

But the hub isn't an island unto itself. Instead, staff routinely ventures into the hospital to bring services and brainstorming directly to doctors, nurses and technicians who might not otherwise have time to visit the hub.
